In our article, we will guide you regarding how to take care of the paint. We will be discussing some tips & tricks which you should know after painting.

How to maintain the New Look?

We have seen that after some time the shine of the paint gets dull & your home again started looking old one. But if you will take care of the following things then you can maintain the new look of your home.

  • Most of the wall paints can be cleaned with the mild soap solution. If you are using emulsions & washable distempers then you can also use this trick on them. You can clean the paint after regular interval of time. But it is difficult to remove very old stains or stubborn so before your paint got a stain just clean it with the solution.
  • You can start with the cleaning after 2 weeks of the paint application. You can remove dust from its surface. The older the stains the more difficult it is to remove.
  • You should take off the soiling places like passages, kitchens & children’s room. Every month you should keep a day to clean the walls. You can sue the soap solution with the sponge to clear the dust from the walls. Make sure you should scrub the wall lightly as heavy scrubbing may cause permanent damage to the paint.
  • In case of severe staining, clean the walls before the stain dries up. Children’s room is more likely to get dirty so you should apply a single coat of paint every two in the children’s room.

Tips for Cleaning Paint

While painting your home cover the furniture, fan or decors to prevent them from any kind of stain. You can cover them with the cloth or plastic. And if a paint drips then immediately wipe out the paint drip from the floor.

Water- Based Paint:

If you have applied water-based paints like distempers, wall putty, emulsion paints using water-based luxury primers or enamels then it becomes more difficult to remove the stain. If the stain is wet then you can wash the floor with the cold water immediately & wipe with the clean cloth to remove the stain.

If the stain gets dried then soak the dripping water or detergent solution, leave it for few mins. Then the drip should be scraped off from a scraper. while scratching the stain make sure not to damage the substrate.

Solvent- Based Paint:

For solvent-based paints like enamels, primers, knifing paste filler, touchwood you can remove the wet stain with the help of a clean cloth & mineral turpentine oil. You can dip the cloth in the oil & remove the stain by running it with the wet cloth.

In case of a dried stain, soak the drip in the mineral turpentine oil & leave it for few minutes. If the stain has dried for over two days, soak the stain with Xylene. Then scratch the drip using the scraper. While scratching, ensure not to damage the value and appearance of the substrate, especially in case of wooden, marble or valuable metal articles/substrates. At last, wipe the area with the water or detergent solution & leave it to dry.

Wood Finishes:

For wood finishes like melamine or PU, you can clear the wet stain with the help of thinner. Soak the melamine drips in the thinner T- 124 & then wipe out the drip with the clean cloth. You can remove the PU stain also using the same thing. Clean the PU stain by soaking it with the thinner no 338 &then wiping it with a clean cloth.

Cleaning Carpet

How-to-Get-Paint-Out-of-Carpet-1

It usually happens whenever we paint our favorite carpet gets a paint drip which becomes difficult for us to use that carpet again & we have to remove the favorite carpet from the home. But you can use the same carpet by cleaning the stain from it. The guidelines for this are discussed below.

For Water-Based Paint:

If your carpet has a stain of water-based paint then you can scrape off the paint with the help of a knife. Using a cloth or sponge dipped in the solution (a cup of warm water and a spoon of dish detergent, no bleach), dab the stain working from the outside in. Soak it for the longest time if the paint does not start dissolving in the soapy water. When the paint starts dissolving in the water, use a tissue to absorb the paint that is left. You can also take help of clean water to remove the paint. Make sure to always blot and not pour water as it may lead to saturation of the carpet and the stain might spread.

For Oil Based Paint:

If your carpet has a stain of oil-based paint then you can use solvents like mineral turpentine, methylated spirit or dry cleaning solvent to remove the stain from the carpet. Just like in water-based coatings, dampen a rag and dab the paint stain from the outside in, without spreading the stain. You can use a detergent solution to remove the paint stain.

For Mildew:

To remove the mildew you can use the old toothbrush to scrub off the mildew from the tiles. For the more stubborn stain, cover the stain with the paste of scouring powder that contains bleach & leaves it for some hours. Then scrub the paint & wipe the tiles. After using the shower, leave the door or curtain open. Wipe the walls to dry them. Close the shower door or curtain to allow that to dry also.

Cleaning Substrates

Recoating:

If you want to recoat the paint for a clear finish. You can apply paint remover or stripper. Then scrap the peeled coating from the wooden surface. Then clean the surface using NC thinner to remove the paint film traces & residual paint remover/ material. Then leave it for an overnight before applying any coat.

Changing Color:

If you want to change the color of wood then remove the previous  color with the paint remover. If the stain is directly on the wood, then it becomes more difficult to remove the stain. In that case, you can apply the same stain or a darker one during recoating.

Wax Drips:

While removing the wax drips carefully scrape the drip. Carefully scrape out as much as wax as possible. After cleaning the surface sufficiently, place a freezer bag of ice cubes over the affected area for few minutes. The cold ice makes the wax more brittle then it becomes easier to remove the wax.

Then you can take the help of a knife to scrape out the additional residue. Then, at last, apply the warm hot method. Firstly use a hair dryer to soften the remaining material and scrape it off. Then place an absorbent material like a thick paper towel on the area & run the hot iron on it. In this way, the wax will melt & get absorbed by the material.
