So basically every above decision will depend upon the surface you want to be paint. Is it the interior of your house or the exterior or some wooden surface or a metal surface?

INTERIOR PAINTING:

So let’s get started with Interior Painting:

You will have to follow various steps before you start with the paint job.

The walls have to be well prepared before the paint is applied and so use of putty and then rubbing the sandpaper over the walls is strongly recommended. Make sure that the primer you use for the interior walls is dark or light according to the paint you need to apply. Once you have applied the primer pick up the best colour that suits your home and complete your paint job. For knowing more about the colour selection you can read the article https://www.colourdrive.in/blog-item.php?blog_id=72&title=How-can-I-select-paints-for-my-new-home?-Which-is-the-best-paint-company-with-low-costs-and-good-quality?

Lets get started with the detailed painting process of the interior of the house. You will get to know that how the interior of the home is painted- that is the hall, the bedroom, kitchen and everything in between.

So these steps have to be followed before you start off with the paint job:

  • Surface should be checked so that no water seepage or dampness takes place.
  • If there is some such problem then water seepage problem should be cured at once
  • Loose flakes or plaster over the wall should be removed
  • Cracks and unevenness in the wall has to be repaired using putty.
  • Previous lime wash, cement paint etc. layers must be completely scraped off to ensure the best paint job.
  • If you have a wall that is affected by the fungus then it should be treated separately. For that purpose you need bleach powder and water. Make a solution of the two where the ratio of bleach powder to that of water should be 1:9. Apply it over the walls and leave it for 10 hours. Then wash the wall with clean water and leave it to dry.

Now you have to get started off with the paint job. For that purpose following steps have to be taken:

·         Once the surface is prepared you need to find out the best distemper for the home. We suggest you to use Decoprime Wall Primer (solvent thinnable) on absorbent surfaces and use Decoprime Wall Primer (water thinnable) on new surfaces. And then leave it to dry for 10-12 hours.

·         Once the primer is dried up you can apply other layer of the primer and then leave it to dry again.

·         After the 2 layers of the primers is dried then you can finally start with the paint job. Make sure that the room you’re painting is exposed to air and if windows etc. is not there in the room then you should switch on the fan else the dampness will make the walls damp again.

·         And your interior painting job is done.

EXTERIOR PAINTING

As we move ahead we will now see that what steps should be taken for the exterior of your home. As stated earlier the surface should be very nicely formed

·         The most common problem with exterior walls, especially old construction, is cracks in the wall. Therefore steps have to be taken in order to repair the cracks and fill them up.

·         All external drainage pipes must be checked for rusting or leakage. Any faulty plumbing must be rectified.

·         Special attention must be given to the roof. Check for cracks near the edges and close to the water reservoirs.

·         Skilled masonry or waterproofing work on the ceiling will enhance the performance of the painted surfaces.

·         If there is a part of wall that is infected with the fugus then you can remove the fungus by sanding the wall with the help of sand paper or you can also use a wire brush for the same. And then you can apply the same bleach solution as mentioned above and leave it for 8-10 hours and then was the wall with clean water and leave it to dry.

Now you have to get started off with the paint job. For that purpose following steps have to be taken:

·         Once the surface is prepared you need to find out the best primer for the home. We suggest you to use Asian Paints Exterior Wall Primer. And then leave it to dry for 4-5 hours.

·         Once the primer is dried up you can apply other layer of the primer and then leave it to dry again.

·         After the 2 layers of the primers is dried then you can finally start with the paint job.

METAL SURFACES:

Now, we move on to other surfaces that you might want to paint. We will see how metal surfaces can be painted in an appropriate way.

For painting the metal surfaces you must remember that the surface should be fee from moisture, dirt, dust, grease, etc. and if there are such areas that you do not want to paint then you can cover that area with the help of a tape.

The most important step that needs to be taken place is the preparation of the surface as it is the step that ensures the best paint job.

·         So if you need to paint a new steel object then you can just start off with the work by just cleaning the grease or oil with the help of water and drop cloth.

·         In case of old metal surfaces it is recommended to remove the flakes or the loose rust with the help of Emery Paper 180.

  • For non-ferrous metal surfaces like aluminium, galvanized iron, tin etc., apply a coat of etch primer.

·         For the selection of the primer Asian paints offers a huge range of primers for the metal surfaces. They include the following: TruCare Red Oxide Primer, Decoprime Premium Metal Primer, TruCare Yellow Primer, Apcolite Advanced 2-Pack Epoxy Primer and TruCare Grey 1-Pack Epoxy Primer.

  • Ensure adequate drying time for primers as per their product recommendations.

Once the surface is well prepared then you can start off with the painting work.

·         Now for painting the metal surfaces the choice of paint must be made nicely. You can apply the paint from the following paints offered by the Asian paints: Apcolite Premium Gloss enamel, Apcolite Advanced High Gloss enamel, Apcolite Premium Satin Enamel, Apcolite Advanced 2 K Epoxy Finish, Tractor enamel.

  • Ensure application of recommended number of coats for best performance of the overall painting system.

WOODEN SURFACES:

·         Take up a sandpaper, 80 or 100 grit sandpaper would work .You can also take up an orbital sander. All you need to do is to remove the old paint and stains from the old wooden surfaces. In case of new wooden surfaces you can start directly.

·         Priming is an important step that you cannot skip if you are looking to have a good wood painting ahead. Apply wood primer by brush after thinning to given ratio by recommended thinner.

·         Apply one more coat of the primer and then leave it to dry. There should be a gap of 8 hours before you apply both the layers of primers.

Once the surface is prepared you can start off with the painting work.

·         For painting the wooden surfaces you can select the enamels from the Asian paints. They include the following: Apcolite Premium Gloss Enamel, Apcolite Premium Satin Enamel or Gattu Synthetic Enamel.

·         You can apply the enamel by using a brush or even spray machine can be used in order to paint the wooden surface.

·         Basically 2 paints of the enamel is usually recommended. But if the earlier shade was darker than the new shade then yes, an additional layer might be important.

·         Leave it to dry. It may take long to dry as enamels take time to dry.

  1. Wall paints can be cleaned with a mild soap water solution. This can be done at intervals so that no permanent dust or stain gets stuck on the wall.
  2. Special care should be taken for the passages, kitchens, and children's rooms where soiling is maximum.
  3. Every month, mild cleaning of the walls can be done. Make sure that you do not rub the walls roughly, because if this is done so then there is the fear that wall paint can be damaged permanently.
  4. In case the wall is exposed to some stain that is heavy, then you must make sure that the wall is cleaned immediately using a drop cloth. And if the stain is still there then you can use a mild soap and a sponge to clean off the surface.
  5. Kid’s room more often gets dirty and so you must make sure that only one coat of fresh paint can be applied annually in order to ensure a fresh look in the house.
  6. You have to keep a note that whether the paint is flaking or some problem is taking place. In such a case you can get a contractor to inspect the damage and then necessary steps can be taken according to the problem detected.
