INTERIOR PAINTING:

So let’s get started with Interior Painting:

You will have to follow various steps before you start with the paint job.

The walls have to be well prepared before the paint is applied and so the use of putty and then rubbing the sandpaper over the walls is strongly recommended. Make sure that the primer you use for the interior walls is dark or light according to the paint you need to apply. Let's get started with the detailed painting process of the interior of the house. You will get to know that how the interior of the home is painted- that is the hall, the bedroom, kitchen and everything in between.

So these steps have to be followed before you start off with the paint job:

  • The surface should be checked so that no water seepage or dampness takes place.
  • If there is some such problem then the water seepage problem should be cured at once
  • Loose flakes or plaster over the wall should be removed
  • Cracks and unevenness in the wall have to be repaired using putty.
  • Previous lime wash, cement paint etc. layers must be completely scraped off to ensure the best paint job.
  • If you have a wall that is affected by the fungus then it should be treated separately. For that purpose, you need bleach powder and water. Make a solution of the two where the ratio of bleach powder to that of water should be 1:9. Apply it over the walls and leave it for 10 hours. EXTERIOR PAINTING

  • The most common problem with exterior walls, especially old construction, is cracks in the wall. Therefore steps have to be taken in order to repair the cracks and fill them up.
  • All external drainage pipes must be checked for rusting or leakage. Any faulty plumbing must be rectified.
  • Special attention must be given to the roof. Check for cracks near the edges and close to the water reservoirs.
  • Skilled masonry or waterproofing work on the ceiling will enhance the performance of the painted surfaces.
  • If there is a part of the wall that is infected with the fungus then you can remove the fungus by sanding the wall with the help of sandpaper or you can also use a wire brush for the same. And then you can apply the same bleach solution as mentioned above and leave it for 8-10 hours and then was the wall with clean water and leave it to dry.

  • Once the primer is dried up you can apply another layer of the primer and then leave it to dry again.

METAL SURFACES:

Now, we move on to other surfaces that you might want to paint. We will see how metal surfaces can be painted in an appropriate way.

For painting the metal surfaces you must remember that the surface should be free from moisture, dirt, dust, grease, etc. and if there are such areas that you do not want to paint then you can cover that area with the help of tape.

The most important step that needs to be taken place in the preparation of the surface is the step that ensures the best paint job.

  • So if you need to paint a new steel object then you can just start off with the work by just cleaning the grease or oil with the help of water and drop cloth.
  • In the case of old metal surfaces, it is recommended to remove the flakes or the loose rust with the help of Emery Paper 180.
  • For non-ferrous metal surfaces like aluminium, galvanized iron, tin etc., apply a coat of etch primer.

WOODEN SURFACES:

·Take up a sandpaper, 80 or 100 grit sandpaper would work.You can also take up an orbital sander. All you need to do is to remove the old paint and stains from the old wooden surfaces. In the case of new wooden surfaces, you can start directly.

  • Priming is an important step that you cannot skip if you are looking to have a good wood painting ahead. Apply wood primer by brush after thinning to the given ratio by recommended thinner.
  • Apply one more coat of the primer and then leave it to dry. There should be a gap of 8 hours before you apply both layers of primers.
  • Once the surface is prepared you can start off with the painting work.
  • For painting the wooden surfaces you can select the enamels from the Asian paints. They include the following: Apcolite Premium Gloss Enamel, Apcolite Premium Satin Enamel or Gattu Synthetic Enamel.
  • You can apply the enamel by using a brush or even a spray machine can be used in order to paint the wooden surface.
  • Basically, 2 paints of the enamel are usually recommended. But if the earlier shade was darker than the new shade then yes, an additional layer might be important.
  • Leave it to dry. It may take longer to dry as enamels take time to dry.

POST PAINTING CARE:

Now let’s see the post painting care steps that you have to take in order to ensure that the paint job you’ve done lasts for long.

  1. Wall paints can be cleaned with a mild soap water solution. This can be done at intervals so that no permanent dust or stain gets stuck on the wall.
  2. Special care should be taken for the passages, kitchens, and children's rooms where soiling is maximum.
  3. Every month, mild cleaning of the walls can be done. Make sure that you do not rub the walls roughly, because if this is done so then there is the fear that wall paint can be damaged permanently.
  4. In case the wall is exposed to some stain that is heavy, then you must make sure that the wall is cleaned immediately using a drop cloth. And if the stain is still there then you can use a mild soap and a sponge to clean off the surface.
